"Recording Custom - perfect balance of classic style with a modern twist
Recording Custom - simply unique
Yamaha's legendary YD9000 or Recording Custom as it later became know was designed in 1977 When launched the drum kit was simply unique and featured many ground breaking designs which set an industry standard that is still regarded today.
Finest Birch for perfectly round shells
The finest Birch from Hokkaido in North Japan was used for the drum shells which were formed with diagonal seams and Yamaha's legendary Air Seal System to make perfectly round shells. The shells were completed with Hi Tension, springless lugs which support tuning and were noise free. These unique lug design helped to reinforce the drum shells when tensioned to support good tuning ability and a more focused sound.
Hardware for total stability
Hardware on the YD9000 drums featured Hexagonal Ball clamp design tom holders to allow maximum freedom in set up and total stability along with Triple tom holder design were there is only one post in the bass drum with 3 mounting positions for Toms and Cymbals.
Recording Custom - a favorite for artists
In 1980 the YD9000 was updated into the YD9000 Recording and then in 1985 became the Recording Custom which it is still know today. Yamaha's 9000 drum kit was truly a ground breaking design which is why it instantly became a favorite for artists and went on to be the most recorded drum kit in history. Even today it is regarded as one of the most request kits for recording sessions or festivals across the globe.
Recording Custom - tradition in perfection
The Ltd 2010 edition honors the original and rarest of Yamaha 9000 kits.
Features the same 100% Hokkaido Birch shell made with Yamaha's Air Seal system just as they did in 1977. Original 60 rounded degree bearing edges are added to the shell to maximize the warmth of the shell. These drums are finished in ‘Vintage Natural' that when aged will become a deeper hue that will enhance the tone of the shell and provide a durable, waterproof finish that will virtually eliminate the influence on weather and humidity on the drum. The ‘Vintage Natural' finish is a modern advance on the original ‘Real Wood' finish of the YD9000, one of the earliest finishes available.
Recording Custom - verstility for most natural tone
The drum set is available as a set with a 22 x 16" Bass Drum, 10" x 8" and 12" x 9" and both a 14" x 13" and 16" x 15" Floor toms. These sizes will provided the maximum amount of versatility and the most natural tone from the beautiful shells for a truly classic sound. 70 Drum sets will be made for the European market only and will be available in the summer 2010. *The colours and finishes shown may vary from those on the actual products. *Some products may not be available in all countries.
